For grown-ups

Every word in this book can be read with the sounds taught up to set 14, plus these tricky words: a, was, the. Let your child sound out and blend each word, and read the whole page again for fluency. Tap Show sounds to see dots under single-letter sounds and bars under sounds written with more than one letter.

Talk about it: what happened on each page? What do you think happens next?

Follow your own programme. This order follows the general Letters and Sounds phase order (GOV.UK, 2007, now historical). Schools in England choose their own phonics programme. The DfE publishes a list of validated programmes (there is no legal requirement to use one), and each programme orders the sounds a little differently. If your school has one, practise in its order and use these pages for extra listening and reading.
