Teacher notes

  • Join the first half of a compound word to its second half. Each match makes a new word, for example sun + flower.
  • The twelve dominoes join into one closed loop, so the last domino fits back onto the first. That means a player can check their own work: if the loop will not close, something is mismatched.
  • Print on thin card if you can, and laminate for a set that lasts. Children can also glue the sheet onto card before cutting.
  • Early finishers: write a sentence for each pair.
  • Cut the dominoes in half and use them as a pairs game (Pelmanism) for a different feel.
