Teacher notes

  • Teaches the four compass points and the language of directions: go, turn, squares, left and right can be added later.
  • Every card begins at a named place and ends at another, so the answer is a place name, not a square. That keeps it language-focused.
  • The map prints in black and white and the icons are drawn simply so children can copy them.
  • Extension: children design their own island and write cards.
